AKA: Beach Movie

Hey, it's a beach flick, and that's just what it is. Plenty of cliches, goofy characters, not much plot, and beautiful women in bikinis or less.

Come to think of it, that's not really so bad. :-)Starring Gabrielle Anwar, Kat Davison, Victoria Silvstedt, Portia Dawson, Traci Bingham.

Wild, goofy satire of sports from Airplane! and Naked Gun co-creator David Zucker stars the guys behind South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone (as well as cohort Dian Bachar), as all-stars in a sport of their own creation that hilariously combines baseball with basketball. The inherent idea behind the sport is to give every guy, regardless of physique, the chance to be a sports star while also preserving the integrity of sports in general by disallowing product endorsements, minimizing trades and enforcing a salary cap.

Alas, when Ted Denslow - the founder of BASEketball and owner of the Minnesota Beers - passes away, an evil sports maven makes a move not only on Denslow's trophy wife, but also on changing the sport of BASEketball completely. As the inheritor of the team, and as co-inventor of the game itself, it's up to Joe Cooper (Parker) to fight off the magnate's advances, even as his best friend Doug Remer (Stone) gives in to avarice.

With a supporting cast populated by well-known names and real-life sports all-stars (and announcers) doing some pretty outrageous things BASEketball is often shockingly funny and has a very, very high re-watchability factor. Among the highlights are veteran actors Ernest Borgnine and Robert Vaughan in some pretty side-splitting roles as Ted Denslow and the evil sports magnate Baxter Caine respectively. It's a safe best that no one ever expected to see Ernest Borgnine tear off his shirt while singing "I'm Too Sexy," but Hell, here it is in all-too vivid color.

Likewise, sports Announcers Al Michaels and Bob Costas are sensational as send-ups of themselves. Michaels in particular gets huge laughs as he gears up some lecherousness while watching the gorgeous BASEketball cheerleaders take the field. And indeed, those cheerleaders, played by a whole host of bodacious dancers and real-life cheerleaders, are pretty jaw-dropping. Praise be then to the credited ladies - Alma Avery,Nancy Bates, Kelli Camarena, Brooke Morales, Heidi Schweizer, Jenifer Strovas, and Andrea Wenzel who shook what their mamas gave them as Beers Cheerleaders and Michelle Boehle, Tani Kristiansen, Rebecca Lin, Jeanine Orci, Jessica Page, Raydeen Revilla, and Chanel Ryan who put their best on display as Felons Cheerleaders.

Unfortunately, Ernest Borgnine and the Cheerleaders are the only ones showing off nipples, this despite the movie starring Uber-babes Jenny McCarthy and Yasmine Bleeth. Hell, even Victoria Silvstedt manages to keep her jugs below the water line in a cameo hot-tub scene! That said, all manage to get in some pretty big laughs. McCarthy literally does all manner of suggestive innuendo (buffing the lobby, is a favorite) while Bleeth gets in on the fun in one scene saying things like "throbbing cock" while standing before a naked Parker and Stone.

So while it's not a big score for skin fans, BASEketball comes up huge for fans of non-stop comedy.
