This is a weird, weird show. David Duchovny is Hank Moody, a novelist who hasn't been able to write ever since he moved to LA to have his book adapted into a movie. He hated the movie and his life stopped. He lost his love (Natascha McElhone) and his daughter along the way. Hank is a thoroughly unlikable character, but he gets laid, like every five seconds. Every hot woman who passes him in LA wants to bang him. That may seem silly, but don't complain because it means this show had more nudity than any Showtime series since Red Shoe Diaries. And it's nudity from actresses you've heard of, Paula Marshall, Madeline Zima (The Nanny), McElhone. This series would actually suck, except that Duchovny makes it all work with his laconic cool and wry, laid-back delivery. Hank Moody may be an asshole, but Duchovny makes it so you can't stop watching him.
