No movie could have ever suited Pam Grier more than The Arena because she was the modern-day equivalent of an Amazon warrior. The body. The costumes. Her afros! (check out her full-frontal scene for proof.) Surround her with other lovelies like Margaret Markov, Marie Louise and Mary Count and you've got a recipe for a great movie.

Roger Corman had a hand in too many excellent (and less-than-excellent) movies to count, but if you want to see a great example of one of the real classics, The Arena is it.

Take the racial tension of "The Defiant Ones," mix in a little "women in prison" tease, and you get this outrageous '70s actioner starring Pam Grier and Margaret Markov as chained-together inmates in a Philippines work camp who escape their captors and join up with revolutionaries in the jungle. With Sid Haig, Lynn Borden; Jonathan Demme co-wrote the story.

Drum follows up where Mandingo leaves off. More white devils. More slaves. More black on white lovin! More white on black lovin! Some like this one better, some prefer the original.

I say any movie with Pam Grier, Fiona Lewis, Isela Vega, Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith and Brenda Sykes is worth watching regardless of whether it's better or not.

Of all the Blaxploitation movies Pam Grier did, this is not one that she's well known for. However, if you're a fan of Ms. Grier's..."talents"...then this one is definitely one you're going to want to track down. Overall it's a pretty solid movie for fans of the genre, but thanks to Pam and Margaret Avery, nudophiles will be glad to picked it up also. It's a shame the DVD quality isn't much better than VHS.

I have read some reviews that don't favor this Women-in-Prison classic as highly as others, but for me, Women in Cages is the epitome of the genre. Innocent women sent off to prison. Lesbians. Shower scenes. Torture. Failed escapes. This movie has it all in spades, plus one of the best casts of the genre that includes Pam Grier, Roberta Collins, Judith M. Brown, Sofia Moran and the clueless Jennifer Gan (who does a remarkable job of keeping herself covered up). This is an absolute must-have and should be considered part of the Holy Trinity of Corman-produced WIP flicks, along with The Big Doll House and The Big Bird Cage.

You're not a true nudophile unless you salivate at the mere words "Women in Prison." One of the best genres in the 70s, you were guaranteed a) chick fights b) shower scenes and c) torture scenes. While The Big Bird Cage is not at the top of my list (because Pam Grier wasn't as naked as I would like), it's still one of the best WIP movies overall. With a ridiculous premise of having homosexual males guarding the female prisoners, the movie features 70s beauties Anitra Ford, Candice Roman, Karen McKevic, Wendy Green, Teda Bracci and many, many, many nameless nudes. A MUST for any WIP collection.

I have NEVER seen a bad Blaxploitation flick. I have seen some that aren't good, but I've never seen a bad one. This movie, however, relies on the one thing that makes a Blaxploitation flick GREAT, and that's a naked Pam Grier. She was, is and will be one of the sexiest women to ever be filmed and just having her in this movie makes it an instant classic.
